At Red Sage, the people behind the care matter just as much as the care itself. As our practice grows, we’re intentional about who we invite into our community-- not only for their clinical expertise, but for how they align with our values, our patients, and the way we show up for one another.
This post is an opportunity to help you get to know Dr. Julie Sowa both inside and outside the clinic, and to introduce an important new service now available at Red Sage: veterinary chiropractic care.
We searched thoughtfully for the right addition to our team-- someone who could help us grow as a small business, fill an unmet need in our community, and truly feel like a natural extension of the Red Sage family. We found all of that in Julie.
We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Julie Sowa, DVM, CVSMT, CVA, CCRP to Red Sage Integrative Veterinary Partners. Julie brings over 20 years of veterinary experience and a deep background in chiropractic therapy, rehabilitation, acupuncture, and integrative pain management. Even better, she is currently accepting new patients.
Julie’s return to Colorado feels like a full-circle moment. She earned her DVM from Colorado State University in 2003, and after years of building and leading a highly respected canine rehabilitation practice in Washington, she’s excited to be back where her veterinary journey began.
A Thoughtful, Multimodal Approach to Movement and Pain
Dr. Sowa’s career spans general practice, emergency medicine, surgery, high-volume spay and neuter, and, for more than a decade, full-time rehabilitation medicine. That breadth is part of what made her such a natural fit at Red Sage. It means she understands not only how injuries happen, but how chronic pain, compensation, and mobility challenges evolve over time — and how thoughtful, integrative care can support patients at every stage.
Her clinical focus blends:
Veterinary chiropractic (spinal manipulation therapy)
Acupuncture
Targeted therapeutic exercise
Functional, goal-oriented rehabilitation
Evidence-based pain management
At Red Sage, Julie works closely with our team to create individualized treatment plans that support comfort, function, and long-term quality of life, whether a patient is an active canine athlete, a weekend hiker, or a senior pet navigating age-related changes.
What is Chiropractic Therapy in a Veterinary Setting?

Veterinary chiropractic therapy, also called spinal manipulation therapy, focuses on restoring normal motion to joints of the spine and limbs. When joints lose proper movement-- due to injury, compensation, repetitive strain, or chronic pain-- surrounding muscles and nerves can be affected.
Chiropractic therapy aims to:
Improve joint mobility
Reduce muscle tension
Support neurologic function
Improve overall movement quality
For many pets, chiropractic care is not a stand-alone treatment, but part of a larger integrative plan that may include rehabilitation exercises, acupuncture, shockwave, laser, or other supportive therapies.
How Can Chiropractic Therapy Help My Pet?

Chiropractic care may benefit pets experiencing:
Neck or back pain
Stiffness or reduced range of motion
Gait abnormalities or performance decline
Compensation after orthopedic injury or surgery
Chronic conditions such as arthritis
Working or sport-related strain
Because every patient is different, Dr. Sowa evaluates the whole picture-- posture, movement patterns, medical history, and goals-- before determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate and how it fits into the overall treatment plan.
Getting to Know Dr. Sowa
Outside the clinic, Julie is rarely sitting still. She loves exploring Colorado’s trails, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, riding horses, and traveling abroad. She and her partner Chris recently relocated to Colorado, and between them they have a big, blended family that includes children and six grandchildren (though Julie says that she doesn't feel old enough to be a grandmother!).
Her animal family is just as full. At home, Julie shares life with two energetic dogs, Quito and Skye; Zelda, a former barn cat who has fully embraced indoor living; and a Green Cheek Conure named Una. Her horse family is equally special, including several horses she has raised from embryos, each with their own career path and distinct personality. Julie brings that same depth of care, patience, and respect for individuality into her work with patients and clients alike.
